Illness and Accidents in School
If a child becomes ill or has an accident during the school day, it may be necessary to contact parents/ carers. It is therefore very important that parent daytime contact numbers are kept up to date and that additional emergency contact numbers such as a close relative or friend are also given to the school.
If any injury occurs during the school day we will provide first aid and will send you a note telling you of any treatment given for bumped heads or injuries. A telephone call will also be made for head bumps.
In the case of a more serious accident that cannot be dealt with in school, parents/ carers will be contacted immediately. If necessary, we will arrange for your child to be taken to a local hospital and accompanied until such time as the parents/carers can get there.
Inhalers
For those children who carry inhalers and may need to use them in school, parents must complete a consent form for inhalers to be held and administered. Class teachers are happy to keep inhalers safe for younger children, but we do encourage children to take responsibility for their own inhalers and keep them in their school bags as soon as they are able.
Medication in School
If a child is recovering from a short term illness and is well enough to return to school, although still receiving short term prescription medication (such as antibiotics), parents must give written consent to medicine being administered in school and provide written details of the medication. Medicine requiring refrigeration should be submitted in a cool bag with an ice pack. The school cannot administer non-prescription medication.
Parents are encouraged to come into school personally, if at all possible, to administer medicines to their children. We ask you to consider the timing of dosages so that if possible medication is administered before and after school and that no lunchtime dose is necessary.
Where children have longer term medical problems their medication needs will be discussed with the Head Teacher.
Allergies
Any Allergies should be advised to the School Office.
