Attendance

Your child’s time in school is very valuable.

Being in school every day will help your child learn, develop and achieve. Did you know?

If your child’s school attendance is between 95% and 100% they have the potential to achieve their best, educationally and socially.

10 days off per year = 94.7%

Whilst 90% attendance might sound good…

90% = ½ day off each week per year

90% = 1 month off school per year

90% = 1 whole school year off in career

Absence

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason at all, please contact the school office on the first day of your child’s absence by 9:00 am by calling 01522 868354, emailing [email protected] or personally reporting absence directly to the school office.

It is important that you contact the school as soon as possible and maintain contact throughout your child’s absence.  If no contact is made to school, you will be contacted by telephone.

Authorised Absence

An authorised absence is when your child has been given permission to be absent from school.  Regular reasons for authorised absence are illness, non-routine/ check-up medical and dental appointments, religious observance, exceptional circumstances and exceptional leave.

Unauthorised Absence

An unauthorised absence is when no explanation for absence has been given to the school, or if the reasons provided do not meet the guidelines set out by the Department for Education.

Arriving Late

Punctuality is also very important. Pupils can come into school from 8:55 am and the school day starts promptly at 9:00 am.  If your child arrives at school after 9:05 am without the school having been previously informed then they will be marked as late.  Pupils arriving late must report to the school office to be signed in.

Should you have any questions or worries regarding attendance and punctuality we want to help so please come and speak to us at the school as soon as possible.
